There’s something magical about photographing families in a setting that feels both rustic and timeless no matter what season. This recent family photoshoot at a log cabin nestled in the woods of West Chester, Pennsylvania, brought all the cozy charm and connection that makes my work so special. Their property was breathtaking with landscaping that made for a gorgeous background in our photos.

Why is a Log Cabin a great setting for Your Family Photoshoot?
This got me thinking that when families are surrounded by nature and space to roam, there is freedom there. The warm wooden textures of the cabin, and the wraparound porch, provided the perfect backdrop for authentic, playful, and candid moments. The same goes for any property that has a rustic playfulness to it, such as barns and other unique cabin-types.
For this session, we explored the surrounding grass paths around the cabin, and even laid in the grass by the front porch. These small in-between moments of laughter, or the baby entranced by holding a flower, are the ones that tell your family’s story in a meaningful way.

Planning Your Own Family Photoshoot at a Log Cabin
If you’re dreaming of a family photoshoot that feels relaxed, real, and connected to nature, I’d love to help you plan it. I provide location scouting, wardrobe guidance, and gentle direction throughout the session to make sure everyone feels comfortable.
Cabin sessions are especially beautiful in the spring, fall and summer months, but they work year-round! Imagine snow-dusted trees in December or sun-dappled woods in June.
